Khao Sok Floating Bungalows: What to Expect on the Water

The Khao Sok floating bungalows on Cheow Lan Lake are rustic wooden raft houses moored right on the water — surrounded by 160-million-year-old rainforest and limestone karst cliffs rising up to 960 metres, scenery often compared to the “Guilin of Thailand”. You’ll reach the bungalows by mid-afternoon on day one, after a roughly 40-minute longtail ride from Ratchaprapha Pier. The raft houses are simple by design: a clean bed, a fan, and shared bathrooms — solar and generator power run in the evening, there’s no wifi, and most guests are glad of it. The real highlight comes at 6am: before the first day-trippers reach the pier, thick mist settles over the emerald water and the jungle wakes to the call of gibbons (and, if you’re lucky, hornbills). Anyone staying at least one night in Khao Sok shouldn’t miss this early hour on the lake — it’s the whole reason to stay overnight.
